Phantom Doctrine is a co-operation espionage stealth board game that will let players take charge and manage a Spy Agency. Players will have to build their base, sneak around the enemy territory and steal information, rescue hostages and much more. To spice things up, Agents can turn out to be double agents that will cross you in the least expected moment. During downtime, when preparing for missions, players will upgrade their base and gear up Agents. Better base locations will let them buy better guns, train agents in the deadly art of killing and much more. Players will also send their Agents on global missions that are necessary to push the storyline forward.
The goal of the creators was to make a game that is easy to learn but hard to master. With simple core mechanics players will pick it up really fast and the scaling element of the game will let them and their friends have fun even after they will know the ins and outs of all the cards and mechanics of the game.
The board game is based on a video game made by CreativeForge Games that was released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One in August 2018 and in June 2019 on Nintendo Switch. The game was warmly welcomed by gamers and media – 76% positive reviews on Steam and 73/100 Metacritic score. Digital and physical versions of the games have a lot of similarities. Both are strategy turn-based espionage thrillers set in the 80’s, at the peak of the Cold War. In the video game, the player, as a leader of a secret organization known as The Cabal, has to save the World from a conspiracy that leads to global conflict. Developers from CreativeForge Games are currently working on a sequel – Phantom Doctrine 2: The Cabal.
