Gambling in the Caribbean
The savvy card game Port Royal from publisher Pegasus Spiele requires readiness to assume risks

FRIEDBERG, March 28th 2014 - In the golden age of piracy, it takes courage to sail through the Caribbean as a mere merchant. But the prospect of wealth and influence justifies great risks. In the card game Port Royal, players must dare a lot to win it all – but those who are too greedy might remain empty-handed.
In the game of Port Royal, players must go all out to get to hire a capable crew and to fulfill the requirements of profitable expeditions. In order to do so the active player may flip as many cards as he likes. But each card raises both the opportunities and dangers to which he exposes himself. And with every card he also increases the chances of his ever lurking rivals to benefit from his voyage of discovery , as they may buy cards from his display at the end of his turn. Regardless his handling of this dilemma: If he ever encounters a ship he cannot repel, his entire turn is wasted.

Port Royal won the Austrian Game Designers Competition of the Wiener Spiele Akademie in 2013 as “Händler der Karibik” (Caribbean Trader). It is a fast-paced, appealing Push-Your-Luck Game full of pirate flair. Two to five Players from ages eight and up can proof their courage within 30 minutes in a game of Port Royal by designer Alexander Pfister. RRP 9,95 €
