Neverwinter is a free action MMORPG that features fast-paced action combat with epic dungeons. Players explore the vast city of Neverwinter and surrounding countryside, learning the vivid history of the iconic city and battling its many enemies.
In Neverwinter, players can also create their own quests and campaigns with the Foundry, a user-generated content tool. Foundry quests and stories can then be seamlessly integrated into the live game world.

For a free MMOrpg NEVERWINTER is exceptional, possibly the best of all free high-fantasy MMOs available.
Graphically it is sensational, characters are larger than life and monsters are ferocious and ugly like all good avatar-eating monsters should be.

Like all free MMOs you have to spend real money if you want to get the best of everything

The Basic Story
Lich Queen Valindra is attacking the citizens and military forces as there are attempts to rebuild the City of Neverwinter. Rumours have it that such evil notaries as Drizzt Do'Urden are involved in the battles but as the tales are told it is revealed that the Lich Queen's troops were losing until a Blue Dragon appeared on their side.

The Netherese leader, the necromancer Idris, take Deathknell (an artifact) to the Barrow Lords of Ebon Downs, thus allowing them to raise an army of undead. The Netherese destroy the village of Grimhollow, prompting Lord Dagult Neverember, Protector of Neverwinter to go to battle with the Netherese to take back the Deathknell. The player characters have more freedom in Neverwinter than they do in most other MMOs. They help to drive the story and generally are not left hanging around waiting for respawns so they can complete missions or quests.  Actions, such as movement, combat, finding missions and returning after quests etc are all very similar to virtually every other MMO.

Playing any MMO that is free is great as long as you can play enough of it to enjoy without feeling pressured into spending real actual money. Neverwinter doesn't pressure you but it does let your characters find chests with valuable items - even a truly fancy mount - possibly inside but you need to buy keys to open these chests. Yes, you do use in-game monetary values but the only way I have found to date is by purchasing these for cash. I am assuming that you can get the necessary purchase price through playing but it is going to be a long long haul.

(Redwood City, CA) June 20, 2013 -- Perfect World Entertainment Inc. and Cryptic Studios today announced the launch of the highly-acclaimed free action MMORPG Neverwinter, set in the Dungeons & Dragons® Forgotten Realms® universe from Wizards of the Coast.

"Over 1.5 million players have explored Neverwinter during our Open Beta. That's an incredible turnout of gamers and we are humbled by the support and grateful for all the feedback that has led us to this official launch," said Cryptic Studios Executive Producer and COO, Craig Zinkievich. "Our game combines the rich setting of Neverwinter with intense action combat and engaging content. With the Foundry, our user-generated content tool, players can also create an endless amount of imaginative quests and campaigns. The exciting part is that we’ve only just begun and already our 1.5 million players, and those millions of new gamers we expect from this launch, can look forward to our first free expansion module, Fury of the Feywild, in the near future. It's been a long journey, but now the adventure can really begin."

In Neverwinter, players explore and defend one of the most beloved cities from Dungeons & Dragons as one of five different classes: Trickster Rogue, Devoted Cleric, Control Wizard, Guardian Fighter and Great Weapon Fighter. In addition, players can choose from eight different races: human, half-orc, dwarf, elf, half-elf, halfling, tiefling and drow.

Today's official launch also marks the live release of Gauntlgrym, Neverwinter's new twist on level 60 PvP and PvE content, and the profession of Alchemy.

Neverwinter's first free expansion module, Fury of the Feywild, introduces the new region of Sharandar,  three campaign areas, three instances, new enemies, new loot, and a new dungeon. This module also introduces two new professions: Weaponsmithing and Artificing.

NEVERWINTER™ LAUNCH DATE, FIRST EXPANSION AND NEW END-GAME REVEALED

Free Action MMORPG Open Beta Successful, Launch Date Set for June 20, 2013

(Redwood City, CA) June 6, 2013 -- Perfect World Entertainment Inc. and Cryptic Studios are excited to announce that the most anticipated and already widely-acclaimed free action MMORPG Neverwinter, set in the Dungeons & Dragons® Forgotten Realms® universe from Wizards of the Coast, concludes Open Beta Testing and launches on June 20, 2013. The launch day also marks the live release of Gauntlgrym, Neverwinter's free level 60 PvE and PvP content for veteran players. Additionally, the first free content expansion to Neverwinter, entitled Fury of the Feywild, has been revealed.

"Boy, we have a lot going on. But then that was the plan from the very beginning." said Cryptic Studios Executive Producer and COO, Craig Zinkievich. "The feedback from players has been incredible. With their help during our Beta Test periods and our accumulated experience from having launched five MMOs, we're confident we've worked out all the major kinks and can sustain the world of Neverwinter without the Beta safety net. I personally thank our Open Beta players for providing an enormous amount of valuable feedback and supporting us during every single step of the development process. As a token of that appreciation, we're running an in-game promotional event near the end of Open Beta. Of course, alongside the launch day comes the release of Gauntlgrym, which adds more end-game content. And, we just announced Fury of the Feywild, our first content expansion for Neverwinter, which will all be, in classic D&D® fashion, Modules. Yeah, there is a lot going on. But we wouldn't have it any other way. The game is doing great and we love working on it."

"We have been thrilled with the work that Cryptic Studios and Perfect World have done on Neverwinter, and the tremendous response from the fans," said Nathan Stewart, Brand Director for Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards of the Coast. "This is one of the Forgotten Realms' most iconic cities and we are excited for the millions of fans that will create their own stories in Neverwinter."

Neverwinter entered Open Beta on April 30, which allowed all players unrestricted access to the game world. Those who participate in Open Beta will see their entire game progress rolled over to launch on June 20, after a short maintenance.

The Gauntlgrym end-game content referred to features a massive PvE and PvP battleground where players fight for the greatest treasures hidden deep in the ancient Dwarven city.

Fury of the Feywild, the first Module for Neverwinter, is a free content expansion due this summer that chronicles an attempt by Fomorian Giants to seize the Elven city of Sharandar. More details about Fury of the Feywild are scheduled to be added to the Module's microsite (now just a teaser) as it closes in on its summer launch: http://nw.perfectworld.com/module1
