Albion Online Releases ‘Cador’ Update

The Upcoming Sandbox MMORPG Receives New Dungeons, Bosses, User Interface Improvements and More

Berlin, Germany - March 24, 2016 - Sandbox Interactive, the developer of the anticipated medieval sandbox MMORPG Albion Online, today announced that their latest update ‘Cador’ is live. The update brings new PvE content, including Heretics-themed dungeons and bosses, as well as reworked armor and spell systems, improved mob visibility, user interface improvements, numerous bug fixes and more. For more information about the ‘Cador’ update, visit: https://albiononline.com/en/update

The PvE content additions in the ‘Cador’ update revolve around the Heretics faction. New gateway dungeons and ruthless bosses are challenging solo players and small groups on their dungeoneering endeavours. Offering a strategic element for both PvP and PvE combat, the new death mechanic introduces a knock down phase, with hit points slowly regenerating until recovery, unless the enemy kills the character before the full resurrection.

Furthermore, players’ adventures become more tactically interesting with the introduction of the new armor categorization (light for ‘cloth’, medium for ‘leather’ and heavy for ‘plate’) suited for different playstyles, 20+ new spells and a portable gear repair kit allowing for longer mob grinding trips. In addition a new fame bonus mechanic balances risk and reward: venturing into the dangerous PvP zones will grant fame bonuses.

Lastly, the ‘Cador’ update introduces UI scaling to fit more information on the screen and a silhouette system, offering better character and mob visibility even with obstacles covering them.

Sandbox Interactive Announces a New Section of the Albion Online Website Dedicated to the Deep Backstory of the Game

Albion Online Receives New Death Mechanics, Repairs on the Go and More

As the next Albion Online content update Cador approaches, developer Sandbox Interactive reveals some new features and improvements coming along with it, including an overhaul of the death mechanic, the introduction of mobile repair kits and a different display of loot and fame bonuses.

For more information on the upcoming Cador features read the developer blog post: https://albiononline.com/en/news/death-mechanic-more

The developers plan to revamp the character death mechanics, which will make both PvE and PvP fights more strategically interesting. Instead of instant death and respawning in a city, the update will introduce a forced knock down phase when the player runs out of hit points. When knocked down, they are not able to actively do anything until their hit points regenerate. This way, fallen players can be revived by others in their group with a resurrection spell. If a knocked down player is executed, their gear can be picked up by their opponents.

In addition, the Cador update will bring a new item called “Repair Kit”, which can be used as a mobile repair station for gear of up to the same tier as the repair kit itself. Despite the benefits of having one’s own fixing tools, it has a limited lifetime and repairs at a higher cost than a regular repair station.

Finally, Albion will receive a modification in the amount of fame gains and loot drops depending on the zones players travel to. Balancing risk versus reward, less dangerous zones yield less bonuses, incentivizing players to explore the risky areas of Albion for more rapid character progression. With the update, in order to make the fame and loot bonus display more visible, the total value will be shown first, with detailed information about which bonuses are active presented in parentheses.

While Albion Online is a sandbox game where places and people continuously deepen the story, the mythological lore of Albion plays a huge part in understanding the reasons behind various occurrences in the game. The new section of the website has been created in cooperation with acclaimed English author Peter Newman. Newman also wrote “Landfall”, a novel based on the world of Albion that will launch next week.

This new section features extensive background information on Albion Online, including a historical timeline and event descriptions, as well as detailed explanations of all of Albion’s factions and their sub-factions, such as Colonists, Royals, Heretics and Undead, among others. Interested players can now learn about the ancient war between Albion’s factions that devastated the lands of Albion and covered it in mists up until the player’s arrival. Additionally, it describes places like “The Old World”, “The Demonic Planes” and “The Land of the Undead” that are in fact ‘outside’ Albion’s world, however hold a strong influence on the overall lore development.

Sandbox Interactive also announced that the information of the lore will be taken into account for future game development and that players can expect to find references to the lore more frequently in the game going forward while the studio is getting ready for the full release of Albion Online later this year.
