AIRHEART: Tales of Broken Wings is a free download game game that catches the imagination from the beginning because it uses the name, Amelia Airheart and it's about a young lady who flies a dual-winged airplane.

"AIRHEART is a dieselpunk action game about a young woman, who flies her airplane and catches skyfish among beautiful sky islands. Amelia's biggest dream is to reach the stratosphere and to bring down the legendary Skywhale, which promises riches and fame for a lifetime.

In the world she lives in, fishing isn’t a hobby - it’s a risky and competitive job. Amelia needs to venture deep into deadly territory, avoiding sky pirates and automated security drones."

"AIRHEART follows Amelia, a young pilot and sky-fisherwoman who dreams of reaching the stratosphere and catching the legendary Skywhale, a feat that promises riches and fame through the ages. Skyfishing is a cutthroat business, though, and Amelia must outmaneuver sky pirates and automated security zones to survive each perilous flight through the beautiful world of floating islands in the clouds she calls home"

Amelia flies her plane attempting to catch Flying Fish while she is being hunted by enemy aircraft who are out to prevent her getting the necessary haul; or reaching the target island.

Airheart is played by taking on missions or jobs (tasks) and growing your plane, experience and equipment from the successes gained. All this has, of course, been seen and done before in various and many action and animated games, but Airheart does it in an almost unique, colourful and quaint manner, so much so that it seems new, refreshing and bright. Actually it is quite bright and refreshing as far as the colours and backgrounds go and it is certainly well animated, making full use of the WASD keys for fluency of movement and action.

A lot of detail has been given to the creation of the back drops even though they are inanimate and have no action in the game except to look realistic; making it a real treat to study while playing - though don't try studying the floating islands too hard when you are flying as that's akin to texting while driving a car. It really is beautiful graphically and takes the whole idea of floating fantasy islands a step or more further than I have seen before even if the game itself isn't as mechanically advanced.

Airheart is stylish, exciting and enjoyable. It has a lot of good going for it and very little negative except perhaps that it's an old style game given a modern twist and a new stylish veneer. For a free game it's better than many and much better than most.
