HOVER: REVOLT of GAMERS:  Fustar Games / Midgar Studios / The Side Kicks  / PC via Steam

This is a bright and fast moving colourful adventure game which you can play solo or online. You create a team of clone characters using the templates provided and then set out to solve the puzzles on your way to complete the missions, remembering to stop at the floating blueprint-style boxes that automatically save your progress.

The fun comes from the adrenaline rush you get as your characters join the Rebellion and parkour up, down, through and along the smooth (and not so smooth) surfaces of the Disney-esque futuristic city. The missions are generally getting across the city from one place to another in the fastest and most stylish way possible. You can grind along and around pipes, wall jump, vaulting, cat-leaping, somersaulting and swinging; the better you perform the better your chances to upgrade your equipment and of course your stylish clothes - you have to look good for the part.

The Movement is made via the regular manner, WASD or the Arrow keys for forward, backward and sideways, plus the [Space Bar] for jumping and double-jumping; all of which helps decidedly with the games speed. In some ways it is reminiscent of the old-style Tony Hawkes skateboarding games because of the tricks you can perform. There are special moves but you can also make your own custom-style moves by manipulating the keys in mid-trick. I'm not going to tell you that attempting to create your own tricks and jumps is easy or that you will be successful very often but it's a lot of fun seeing what you can do.

The only problem for me personally is that this is a game that requires dexterity at speed, and I have never had the most nimblest fingers when it comes to using the keyboard, mouse buttons or a gamepad. As usual my in-built ability to spot errors has raised it's ugly head again - I usually notice them just after I have printed many copies of a letter - but here they are in the speech bubbles and information text that pops up onscreen regularly; "Any information which aren't normally available are now visible with the scan." being an easy one to spot.

Throughout the game you have to communicate with a blue-print type spectral image of a robot. Once you begin talking to him you will open conversations with other City residents, though by conversation I mean they talk-you listen. You can click to skip their chat but I advise that you listen to the majority of it because there are many things to learn from them.

This is definitely one that players who enjoy animated games for their visual look as well as their playability and challenging puzzles. HOVER: Revolt of Gamers is certainly a game to be enjoyed  especially if you can react quick enough when required. The City and its characters are beautifully rendered in seamless 3D motion, plus the sounds are clean and sharp as you would expect from a game that Kickstarted so successfully; 3,843 backers pledged $116,398 to help bring this project to life.

Playable on the home computer through Steam as a regular, but exciting, challenging game, Hover: Revolt of Gamers is also brilliant when played in the immersed reality of Oculus Rift where the 3D effects are used to their best possible outcome. Whether you play it dynamically through the 3D of VR or just straight up on your PC (Steam handles the game extremely well) your inner-child will be enthralled by the brightly coloured playgrounds that each view of the City affords us. Whether I am playing in the first person or third person view the excitement for me doesn't change, the game really keeps me in my seat. I have to be honest and say that I cannot race against the clock, mainly because of my renown lack of skill and adroitness when it comes to nimbleness. When I was younger (like many many years ago) I used to be able to run at walls, cling to the top and haul myself up, run across pipes (in the tarmac grounded play areas), jump from wall to wall (even once from one balcony to another), over hedges to land on rickety benches (at Blackgang Chine IoW) and wall jump (but not very high). In those days it was just called playing about, no-one had heard of Parkour, but now that I am disabled I can only do those things through the wonder of electronic games and Hover: Revolt of Gamers is a super example of that type of game; it isn't a retro game but it takes me back in time.
