Gil's Game Design News - May 2019
I'm headed to a bunch of conventions! That shouldn't be much of a surprise; these days, I'm always headed to a convention, it seems.
But I'm very excited about the next three shows I'm attending, as you'll get a chance to try the next two games in my pipeline...
I've announced my next two games, The Rival Networks and Weird Stories!
I'm working on two new games! One is Formal Ferret's first co-design, The Rival Networks; I'm designing it with my friend and super-talented designer JR Honeycutt.
The Rival Networks is a scaled-down 2-player version of The Networks that you can play in about 15 minutes. It's great for people who are intrigued by the theme but are new to gaming.
Weird Stories is my other new game, and it's a storytelling RPG! It's a zero-prep, one-shot, GM-less game in which players will tell a story evocative of the TV series Lost, or a David Lynch movie, or a book by Hiroki Murakami or Jeff VanDeMeer. This is my first roleplaying game; I'm really excited to be working on it!
Try these games, along with High Rise, at a convention near you!
I've had a nice break, but it's time for me to travel again. I'll be at 3 conventions over the next 5 weeks!
First, I'll be at Geekway to the West from May 16 to May 19. I won't have a booth there; I'll just pick a table and show off some games (and maybe get to play other people's games!). I'll have all my games on me, including High Rise, The Rival Networks, and Weird Stories. (And Rival Networks co-designer JR Honeycutt will be there as well!)
If you'd like to schedule a time to try High Rise or Weird Stories, you can sign up here. You can also find me to play The Rival Networks. It's a quick game, so there's no need to schedule time for it.
Next, you can catch me at UK Games Expo in Birmingham, England from May 31 to June 2! We'll be in booth 2-402, at the intersection of Formal Ferret Avenue and Boardgameguru Street. We'll have High Rise (demo only), The Networks(with The Networks: Executives expansion), and Bad Medicine. We will also have copies of Wordsy to sell, and we will have a Wordsy-related surprise there!
Also, I still need a few more helpers for UKGE! If you'd like to attend this excellent show without having to pay for a badge or a hotel room, let me know and I'll get you in.
Finally, I'll be at Origins in Columbus, OH from June 12 to June 16. Find me in booth #523, lobbing paper airplanes into the Indie Game Studios booth. We'll have everything we were showing at UKGE - that is, High Rise (demo only), The Networks (with The Networks: Executives expansion), and Bad Medicine, plus our Wordsy surprise.
Register to play a Formal Ferret game (or watch Ludology Live) at Gen Con!
Gen Con is still several months away, but it's not too early to start planning your events, as they tend to fill up quickly!
Once again, I'm working with Double Exposure's Envoy program to demo my games in the Event Hall. You can try High Rise, The Networks, or Bad Medicine. We're also holding the US Wordsy National Championship for the second straight year. Sign up here!
If you'd rather take a break from playing games, we will continue our annual tradition of recording a live Ludology Q&A episode at Gen Con. This is always a fun and excellent time, so sign up here to join up!
Unlike many Gen Con events, all of these events are going to be free of charge (with the exception of the Wordsy championship, which is a $4 ticket). I hope to see you there!
